Trusting Our People

| Comments (0)

I believe in the American people. And for the last year and three months, they have not let me down. Every time they have been given the opportunity to let their voices be heard, to shout and scream – and vote – against the people who have made it their mission to destroy our country, the American people have not hesitated to shout, to scream, to vote.

From the summer’s town halls; to the special elections in Virginia and New Jersey; to a miracle vote in Massachusetts that saw a little-known republican claim a Senate seat all of Washington, and America, assumed was a Kennedy entitlement; to the congressional phone lines jammed yesterday and today by Americans scrambling not only to tell their so-called congressional representatives that they don’t want this atrocity of a health-care bill, but also to remind those so-called representatives that it is their job to represent their constituents, not a man in the White House whose dream is to see America reduced to a third-world dictatorship.

But this time, we the people are being denied the precious inalienable rights granted by the Constitution. Having met defeat after defeat at the hands of the American populace they so despise, the criminals in Washington have concocted a plan to bypass those ungrateful Americans and the Constitution they rode in on, thus ensuring that they, the criminals, can jam through any policy or crippling bill they “deem” critical to their transformation of the United States. In other words, this is only the beginning, folks. They jam this health-care atrocity through without a vote, without the consent of the American people, and the sky’s the limit. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) so much as said just that yesterday.

Americans do not want this. Our founders did not want it either, and they did all they could to protect us from those who would try to destroy us from within. But cowardice and evil are reigning supreme in DC tonight, especially among those sniveling representatives who don’t want this thing either, but nevertheless kneel whimpering at the feet of the President, Pelosi and Reid.

Meanwhile I am filled with so much rage I can hardly talk. But I take some solace knowing that my rage is shared by the vast majority of the American people who have remained exactly who I have always believed them to be throughout this chaos. I look forward to the day when we will at last be able to channel the energy of that rage toward the rescue, protection and preservation of our nation once more.

Kucinich Caves

We all knew he would. This morning, Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), one of the most left-wing liberals in Congress, announced that, after the cushy ride on Air Force One, playfully kibitzing and showboating around with the President in front a small, hand-picked audience beside his dear leader in his home state, he will indeed vote yes on the health-care abomination.

Big surprise.

And for the record, I don’t happen to believe that the President should be allowed to use Air Force One for the offering of bribes and/or the issuing of threats. It’s not his private toy to take out joyriding with his buddies. But that’s just me.

Why?

Why would a man place his hand on a Bible – Abraham Lincoln’s Bible, of all Bibles – and vow to honor and uphold the Constitution of the United States, then set out consciously and publicly to defy the tenets of that document, as well as the people that document represents?

I suppose we already know the answer to this question. Indeed the man now occupying the White House, his wife, the minions with whom he has surrounded and insulated himself, as well as his kindred spirits in the United States Congress, have all made it abundantly clear that the document they are sworn to uphold is meaningless to them. Most, including the President, made this disdain clear when they were running for office. What they did not publicize quite so blatantly was their desire to tear this nation apart from its guts, and rebuild into a distorted and weakened entity that does not even begin to resemble the blueprint set forth in our Constitution, the blueprint they apparently fraudulently swore to honor and uphold.

So I ask: Why are these perpetrators so hell bent on destroying our nation?

It goes beyond a simple lust for power. The President of the United States has power from that title alone. A great deal of power emanates from a congressional seat, as well. No, there is something far more insidious at play here. This current President and his wife have made no secret of the fact that their motive to claim the White House had nothing to do with love of country. Quite the contrary. America needs to be punished, they and theirs have told us, and they and theirs are just the people to carry out the punishment.

Why they have grown to feel this way, well, I won’t use labels (at the moment), but I’d say it has all to do with the so-called “inner child.” The people now running this nation, from the couple occupying the White House, through the administration, to the radical majority in the Congress – and, by extension, the squishy, wishy-washy Congresspeople who have elevated the term “for sale to the highest bidder” to a whole new level – they all seem to be acting out according to their inner demons and past, probably childhood-related, affronts.

Given the realities of early biological brain development, and my own experience as a mom, I firmly believe that by the time a child reaches about 5 years of age, he or she is pretty much formed in terms of who he or she is and will be. We have all had the so-called “inspirational,” and certainly fuzzy, story of this President’s early beginnings jammed down our throats, so it’s not all that difficult to make the leap from that childhood to the man we see before us today. As we know, he is not alone in his mission, so I think we are witnessing a mass expression of childhood angst at the federal level, and it is not at all pretty. The inner children, the perpetual 5-year-olds, have been given the keys to the kingdom, and they are running amok, to the detriment of us all.

Even as I write this, these people are plotting a coup, right out in front of us, for all America to see. They are colluding at this moment to make law a bill that promises to destroy the fabric and fiber and the inalienable rights of these United States. Without a vote. Without the consent of the people. The vast majority of America has refused repeatedly to go along with their plan, so, like a mob of spoiled children, they are going to do it anyway. They tell us that Americans don’t care about parliamentary procedure and Constitutional rules. Translation: We’ll just make up our own rules. We’ll show you.

And they are laughing. Laughing at our love for that stale old document, the Constitution. Laughing at us. See them as the spoiled and damaged children they are behind the grown-up masks, and we see why.

Oh, Danny Boy

Wednesday is St. Patrick’s Day. This is huge in my predominantly Irish-American community, and though I am not Irish myself, I have always found great comfort and warmth and inspiration in the influence.

Today in church I received that comfort and that warmth and that inspiration just when I desperately needed it, and I don’t think I quite realized it until it called me.

Our week ahead promises not only the annual celebration of St. Patrick, but also the hostile, vicious promises from our so-called leaders that they will do whatever it takes – the Constitution be damned – to make this atrocity of a health-care bill the law of the land. The American people have made it clear that they do not want it. Congressional democrats, along with the President of the United States and his administration, have spat back, “we don’t care!”, and at this very moment they are threatening the members of their own party who are considering a “no” vote and looking for whatever unconstitutional bypass they can find to shove it through without a vote. The capper came today when Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced that by next Sunday, it will be the law of the land.

I am grateful I didn’t hear Gibbs say this personally. I was in church when he said it. Kneeling. Feeling confused and sad, and very worried as I thought about the week that lies ahead for us. But then I heard the soft, haunting introduction on the piano to one of my favorite songs: “Danny Boy.” This was soon joined by the voices of a bonafide Irish tenor in duet with a beautiful deep baritone. And at that moment, the words I had been struggling to find came to me: “Please don’t let them take our country.”

That was my prayer. It was just what I needed, all that I needed. And it was given to me by the beautiful Irish anthem “Danny Boy.”

I felt better after that. I still do. The Irish have always been warriors. They have contributed mightily to the warrior fabric and fiber of America – and why I find such comfort in their influence. Though I remain worried. I sit here tonight and wonder, is Robert Gibbs right? This time next week, as he said, will this atrocity be the law of the land, a jagged tear in our greatness? Please, God, don’t let them take our country.

In my heart, I don’t think it will happen. If it were left solely to the American people, I know it wouldn’t. But there are other, more insidious forces at play here, forces that defy openly what America is and what her blueprint has deemed she must and will be. There is thus a chance that those forces could win this one. They have vowed to do it this week, to subvert with hostility and arrogance our nation, our Constitution, our people and, as an open affront to the Irish, the spirit of St. Patrick. But even if they do take this round – admittedly a terrible blow to those who love this country — I still believe that the American people, and the spirit of the United States itself, will prevail. As I have said so many times before, there is no other option.

In the meantime, I will keep the lovely strains of “Danny Boy” streaming through my head. And my prayer. Please don’t let them take our country. And with that I say good night, America. This week is going to be a rough one. It’s going to be painful. But as has been the case with all of America’s many righteous battles, we must keep up the fight and keep the faith. God bless us all.

Life in this Bizarro World

| Comments (0)

For months now I have felt like I’ve been living in one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes, “The Bizarro Jerry.” Elaine falls in with a ”bizarro” opposite crowd, where the guy pals read books, they lock their apartment doors, they give money to charity, and they treat each other with respect.

In our own current bizarro world, the United States government has waged war against our liberties, shredded our Constitution; gobbled up private industries; promoted policies that have left millions of Americans jobless; treated foreign-born terrorists like American citizens; spent us into oblivion; cut corrupt backroom-esque deals in full view of the public with unions and legislators (and threatened those that don’t comply); and, most notably, launched a full-blown attack on the American health-care system to place it under government control, ration care, and control every aspect of our lives. Meanwhile, a lapdog media rubber stamps each of these efforts, fighting any attempt made to illuminate truth and preserve our liberty.

The public response has surprised those seeking to destroy and transform America. With each attack, we have witnessed the awakening of the legendary sleeping giant, the American people, who have refused to go quietly into that insidious corrupt night. We may awaken each morning to an America we hardly recognize anymore, but most of us see it for what it is: just another challenge to the grand experiment that is this nation — a challenge we will overcome.

In keeping with the bizarro nature of our America right now, I discovered a curious piece of inspiration where I least expected to find it: the Showtime drama Dexter. Think what you will of this story of a serial killer who targets only those who have committed heinous acts and escaped justice (we’re talking bizarro America here, remember?), but the words of Dexter’s adopted father Harry, a police officer, apply just as pertinently to his fictional TV world as they do our unfortunately very real bizarro one:

“The world can always be set right again.”

I’ll be keeping that one. Though I personally believe our current chaos will get worse before it gets better, “the world can always be set right again.” It can. And ours will. There is no other option.

The Plague that Never Was

| Comments (0)

I watched a documentary today on the History Channel about the plague. You know, the plague that swept through Europe hundreds of years ago and wiped out half of the continent’s population — not the plague (the H1N1 ”swine flu”) that our chicken-little leaders started warning us last spring would strike and wipe out half our population. To their great disappointment, I think, it never happened.

Who can forget U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, and her boss warning us repeatedly that if we didn’t wash our hands and cough into our elbows, we might die. Oh, and get the vaccine, they said. Very, very important. Critical. Life and death…wait…no, never mind. Not enough vaccines, so don’t worry about it….ahh, there they are…okay, go get the vaccine or you might die. Ooops, never mind again, can’t get them after all…oh, there we go, found them, so go get the vaccine, because, you know, if you don’t, you might die.

As we know now, the casualties, while heartbreaking as they are for any flu, any senseless loss, were far less numerous than predicted (hoped?), and we haven’t heard much about this particular flu for awhile. But then today, wouldn’t you know it, just hours after I learned everything I ever wanted to know about the bubonic plague, I hear on the car radio a commercial for an H1N1 vaccine clinic this week “while supplies last.”

I think I’ll pass. My son had the distinction of being one of the earlier cases of the swine flu last spring, and I have tell you, after what I saw on that documentary today, it was nothing like the plague. It was a flu with a high fever, but, like I said, nothing like the plague. Seeing how well it could be survived (again, unlike the “real” plague), the rest of our family defied the government’s intermittent orders, refused the vaccine, ignored the hysteria, and lived to tell about it.  Thinking for youself sure can be liberating.

More Pearls from Nancy

Yesterday I posted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) now legendary statement that “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it. . . .”

Now let’s investigate this brilliant plea of hers for passage of the health-care monstrosity a bit further. Part of her joyous chirping to the masses was her focus on prevention. You see, she and the President, in their infinite wisdom, seem to believe that prevention is the key to virtually every possible  human malady.

“Prevention, prevention, prevention!” she crowed, exalting gloriously in the exciting potential inherent in this new prevention-based government takeover. “It’s about diet, not diabetes!”

Really.  Let’s think about what she is saying here, suggesting (as the President has many times himself in his own endless lectures on this subject) that all you need to do is eat right, and you need never worry about diabetes. Well, Ms. Pelosi, I’d say that’s news to diabetes patients everywhere.

To be blunt, Ms. Pelosi, you and the President are wrong. Just ask the parents of the wispy little 5-year-old girl who never met a homegrown vegetable she doesn’t like, newly diagnosed with type-2 diabetes. Or the strapping 19-year-old athlete, equally loyal to the food pyramid yet also responsible for daily blood monitoring and insulin injections. The list goes on and on, encompassing not only all kinds of people, but all kinds of conditions, as well. Leukemia. Brain tumors. Epilepsy. Cystic Fibrosis. Parkinson’s. Bone cancer….Prevention, Nancy? Are you sure?

But this really isn’t your point or the President’s, is it, Ms. Pelosi? Focus on prevention, prevention, prevention, and you not only make patients solely responsible for the onset and maintenance of their own diseases and health problems, you also elevate the government (i.e. you and the President) to a position of even greater, more tyrannical control over every aspect of our lives. So elevated, you can mandate what we eat, what we drink, how much we eat, how much we drink, where we live, what we wear, what we read, what we drive….

And this is only the begnning. Even as I write this, a New York State Legislator has introduced a bill that would outlaw the use of salt for the preparation of food in restaurants in New York (in other words, no salt for you, Bobby Flay and Gordon Ramsay and every other high-profile chef that has made NYC a culinary mecca). Nancy must be so proud of this effort. She’ll be even happier if New York passes the bill so the citizens of the state can see what’s in it.

Nancy Pelosi Reveals the Truth

| Comments (0)

Maybe she mis-spoke (again). Maybe she was just flustered (again). Maybe she’s panicked (again). Or maybe she’s just not all that bright….

Whatever it is, Speaker-of-the-House Nancy Pelosi has once again revealed loudly, clearly and for all the nation to hear, the truth about the health-care monstrosity she, her fearless leader in the White House, and their lockstepping minions are currently attempting to shove down our throats:

“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it. . . .”

I have a feeling she resisted the impulse to add that “we have to pass the bill” so that she and Congress “can find out what is in it, too.”

Skeptics can see her for themselves at:

Oscar’s Miracle

| Comments (0)

March 8, 2010 | Comments

So I sit out the Oscars last night, and an actual, bonafide miracle occurs after so many years of Hollywood’s wandering the liberal desert. Contrary to the buzz following Avatar and everyone associated with it (including Director nominee James Cameron), into that glittering awards celebration, the Oscar for Best Director went to Cameron’s ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow, for the war epic The Hurt Locker.

Though this upset alone would seem a miracle, the true miracle occurred when Ms. Bigelow included our troops in Iran and Afghanistan in her acceptance speech! At the Oscars! Brazenly and unabashedly in front of all the Hollywood elite assembled there.

While some in that building last night might have seen the military accolades that followed that win as a sign of the apocalypse, others, particularly the closeted Hollywood conservatives in attendance (and me — not in attendance), would regard it more as a miracle — or simply the desire on the part of the voters to avoid another “king of the world” speech from favorite Cameron.

Either way, brava Kathryn! And thanks for remembering the men and women and their families back home who dedicate their lives to protecting us, our children, and our beautiful country each and every day. Maybe I’ll give the Oscars another try next year….

Signs of Testosterone on Capitol Hill

| Comments (0)

March 8, 2010 | Comments

UPDATE — 4 HOURS LATER:  Congressman Massa did indeed step down, so we’ll just have to see what happens next. I’m still waiting to hear the rest of the story, since I cannot believe that “salty language” and the tosseling of a staffer’s hair at a party would be cause for an ethics investigation and resignation. We’ve heard hints of cancer, death threats, family safety and of course the Congressman’s “no” vote on health care as further reason, but, like I said, we’ll just have to see what happens next….

March 8, 2010 | Comments

In an hour or so, democratic Congressman, freshman Eric Massa from New York, may be counted as yet another casualty of the chaos now reigning in this administration and the Congress enabling it. Last week, we heard that Congressman Massa was the subject of an ethics investigation regarding a male staff member; he ultimately announced that he would step down from his seat today at 5 pm, EST.

Despite the immediate assumptions heralded by the initial headlines, it appears there is far more to this story than we assumed. It seems the Congressman, a former naval Petty Officer, made some silly comments using admittedly “salty” language at a wedding reception, reminiscent of what one might hear among males young and old in locker rooms (more on locker rooms later) and dugouts. A guy at the table took offense and reported the Congressman to the proper authorities.

Now, I have no idea what happened, but if this is the gist of the story, first, should the Congressman be slunking off in defeat like this? And second, you’re telling me that this is grounds for a large-scale ethics investigation?

The Congressman came out slugging on a Western New York radio station yesterday, claiming that this all came to pass because he, a democrat, is being targeted by his fellow democrats, particularly former-ballet-dancer-turned-presidential-attack-dog Rahm Emanuel. Congressman Massa now claims that Emanuel accosted him in the Congressional showers, in a scene involving naked men, the devil’s spawn, poked-finger-to-the-chest intimidation, and Massa’s track record of voting against the administration’s pet agenda items, particularly health care. If you have not heard this interchange, you must, and here is the link:
www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/03/08/massa_rahm_emanuel_would_sell_his_own_mother_for_votes.html

Last I heard, the Congressman still intends to step down. If indeed his infraction involved only some “salty” language at a wedding, I hope he doesn’t. If he fears for his family after taking threats from administration thugs, well, I guess that’s understandable. He would seem an obvious misfit within a party currently doing whatever it takes to gut and remake America as dictated by the White House, but regardless of party, it sure is good to hear some evidence of testosterone in Washington again – and from an actual man this time, not just grizzlymom Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and other warrior moms fearlessly braying that the emperor has no clothes.

It’s tough to see men struggling with their own rights to be men in this touchy-feely time of ours (and it’s not all that appealing to what I imagine is the majority of women, either), but Congressman Massa has taken the first step. If indeed his “ethics violation” involves only this idiotic wedding moment, then maybe he’ll keep that testosterone momentum going and decide not to step down after all. We’ll know in an hour.
